Quotes of the Day! On Memorial Day

Here are some thought provoking Words of Wisdom to contemplate for the day.

"People who shut their eyes to reality simply invite their own destruction, and anyone who insists on remaining in a state of innocence long after that innocence is dead turns himself into a monster." – James Baldwin (1924-1987) American Novelist, Essayist

"The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think — rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men." – John Dewey (1859-1952) American Teacher, Philosopher

"A great architect is not made by way of a brain nearly so much as he is made by way of a cultivated, enriched heart." – Frank Lloyd Wright (1869-1959) American Architect

Q.W. 3.0

When the jokes are no longer funny
The comedian no longer gets paid.
When the Hookers no longer hot
The Pimps money is no longer made.
If you can no longer hit a homerun over the fence
Your glory days are starting to fade.

Like a dozen dieing rose on a cabnet shelf.
Like a dead man looking for good health.
What goes the mind of the blind man wanting to see?
What happens when dracula bites a stone who cant bleed?

I need a woman that can handle this

May 23, 2006 Sam Leave a comment

So I was talking with my mother a few days ago and for those of that know me, ya’ll know I love marching band.
-Everything about it. The innerworkings, the behind the scenes-after hour workings. I love to be on the field, on the podiuĀ  and making people cheer, and equally so I love brainstorming ideas for marching band shows and putting them together.-
So anyways I was talking to my mom and she said that im going to need to find a woman that loves marching band like I do or someone that can handle my passion for it and still love me. Its insane how much I love it. If my dad would let me- I would sign seal and deliver a show to the schools doorstep that would totally kick ass. Its probably a good thing for nampa and centenial and all the other 5A bands that Im not running the show. If I could make drill design a job I could comfortably live on- I know thats what Id be doing, maybe down the line I will. Only time will tell, but when it happens I need to find a woman that can handle this. I know I havent found one yet, past or present. But hey- There’s always the future.

One and Done

Ive decided that after this school year and teaching at the summer enrichment accademy that Im going to withdraw from being an active substitute. I enjoy the fact that im subbing for music classes but Im getting tired of subbing for music classes. When I signed up to be a sub I was under the impression that I would be able to sit in and "teach" several different types of classes. So far all Ive subbed is music, which isnt all bad, but Im not really a teacher. Im more of an enhancer you could say. I dont have actual teaching skills but Im being asked to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders brand new material that they dont know how to play not just bridging the gap till the teacher gets back. I wouldnt have a problem introducing new music but the students Ive been working with just dont happen to have the skills that allow that to happen easly yet. Teaching the little things and helping students clean up playing is easy, but introducing brand new material and being expected to successfully teach it to students is crazy.
I love working at the HS because it allows me to be able to give out new music and be able to get it into playing form because the people Im working with know the basics and that allows me to do what I do best as a sub, enhance whats there. If its not there- Im out of my element.
The thing about teaching at the summer enrichment accademy is different. Its different because im the one writing and helping develop the lesson plans and I'll know what the students do and do not know. As a sub- you're stepping into the teachers shoes. I know music, but I dont know all that the teachers im stepping in for know or what they're kids know and have done and being expected to fill the void of the absent teacher without a hitch is nearly impossible.

So basically what im saying is- I'll finish out my commitments to teaching and subing, but then im hanging up the ruler and eating the apple.

Gotta love spanish TV

May 21, 2006 Sam 2 comments

Has anyone ever sat and watched the spanish channel? I mean during the day, there's really nothing good on TV so why not watch what's on the spanish channel. I mean you see classic movies dubbed into spanish and you know what they're saying because you've seen the movie in english so many time and the crazy gameshows like "Mega Match". so if you guys know what Im talking about- and you've watched so much spanish TV in one sitting you start thinking you're actually a spanish speaker because thats all you've heard for the past hour and a half then you hear a parent call for you in engish and it sounds funny, anyone know what Im talking about?
Well Im going to assume that most dont and I know that most people are getting out of school for the summer and if you find you have nothing better to do on a summer day- tune to the spanish channel watch it. Its awesome.
