On Notice: ‘Bronco Nation’ people

August 30, 2007 Sam Leave a comment

First off I want to say that Im extremely happy with our 56-7 blowout of Weber State, exactly like it should have been.
But I do have to say something that really pissed me off. Im a Bronco fan through and through and probably literally would bleed blue and orange and I would NEVER leave a game at the end of the third quarter. I dont care how big the blow out is- If you want to call yourself a true member of Bronco Nation you would stay till the very end!
Dont be a poser member of Bronco Nation and leave a game early! The stadium basically emptied out as time ended in the third quarter. Its emberassing, not to mention disrespectful to everyone else in the real Bronco Nation as well as all the players and band members. when all the ‘die-hard’ Bronco fans walk out because the game is good as done.
After the third quarter- the Bronco fans in Bronco stadium barely tripled all the Weber State fans left in Bronco Stadium if that. Im so tired of poser fans when I know that there are a ton of BSU students that would have done almost anything to be there and stayed through the entire game.
As Peter Griffin would say: It grinds my gears America, and that is why- you, those people in the poser ‘Bronco Nation’ are ON NOTICE!

Enjoying the calm before the storm

that is Boise State Football!

Im super excited tonight, and admittedly a little nervous.
So many things are running through my head, from the music, to the sets, to the non-band related questions.

No matter what the answer to any of the questions end up being- they wont effect me one way or the other once I find that tunnel entrance that leads to the field and 30,000 plus fans.
I just hope she knows how much I hope she’s a part of that mob.

How will you remember me?

Or maybe a better question to put this in context is- How do you want to be remembered?

For me, since setting foot on the Boise State campus Ive wanted to be the best, especially in the Blue Thunder Marching Band.
Today- things basically fell into context for me. I figured out how I wanted to be remembered, especially this year. I want to be remembered for being that Big Guy that went out and had one hell of a time tootin on his horn, while being damn good. Ive gotten over the need to be the absolute best. I reached that plateau last year when arguably the greatest horn line was assembled and claimed the crown as Best Section. I cant say it wouldn’t be nice to be the first section to repeat as Best Section in recent memory, but I’ve accomplished what I set out to do- leave my mark on the Blue Thunder.

Now its time to have fun… By this time tomorrow… Its Showtime Folks!

So much to say, So little time to tell

This last week has gone by too fast. Maybe thats not as bad as it sounds because it was band camp and whatnot- but tomorrow I start my third year at Boise State. I cant believe how fast these last two years have gone… Two years ago I was the wide-eyed nervous freshman walking onto campus for the first time and now freshman doing the exact same thing. I cant believe how much Ive changed in those two years… If people were to compare me then and me now I dont think many of them would believe they’re the same person.

Now for some more Blubs….

-Im excited for school to start again. Most of the people on my floor seem to be pretty cool… but we’ll see as the semester goes on about some of the people down the hall.

-Im an addict. It sucks… Im addicted to online Fantasy Football! Last year I did it for shits and giggles and this year Ive expanded to three pro fantasy teams and one college football fantasy team. I cannot wait for the regular seasons to start!

-Being single is getting old… enough said.

-I really think Im going to be limiting the number of trips I make back the the 2C simply because the drive is starting to feel longer and longer every time I take it.

Comin down the homestretch

Four days into band camp and Im extremely happy where we are. My chops are getting more and more consistent and my Tan is getting deeper and deeper.
This first show of ours is definitely different… its got a nostalgic touch with some new edge flair… Its definitely not the cookie cutter show that we’ve done in years past. Im absolutely loving the feeling that we (the Blue Thunder) have finally taken that next step. We Big, We Bad, We just that Damn Good.

Tomorrow is Friday. Yes!…

Day 2 kicked ass!

I wont hold back much when I say ever since last year there’s been a shift in the band… before and during my freshman year the main focus was always the trumpets…. last year we shifted to the focus to us- the mellophones. Ten of us raised the bar and this year with 12 (and eventually 13) we’re raising the bar higher and higher.
It feels so good to be one of Dave’s favored sections. When another section cant do something- the mellophones are brought in to show how its done. One of my friends on the Trumpet line fully believes things are going to go back to the way they were two years ago when the Trumpet line was the place to be- but last year they dropped the ball and Dave handed to us and we’ve run with it ever since.
Its good to see eight of the core 10 coming back and adding people that have drum corp experience… some days its just not fair.

I broke through that glass ceiling today and got my chops back to where they were before I had my wisdom teeth pulled a week before last years band camp. Im playing higher and stronger and better than I have in a long time.

Pregame- Done.
Opener- Almost there baby! Yeah!

8 days… and it’s Show time Folks!

So good to be back

I think I’ve finally started to figure out that difference between the second and third year… for me at least. More on that by the end of the week though.

Im surprised how fast my chops came back after not playing for 5 months. The sound was there but the endurance wasn’t. Man, the only thing I wish I had right now was someone to kiss my really soft lips to make them feel better. :P
